We are in the age of the global market. Anything in America can find its way around the world over night. We are hyperlinked to everyone else. Racism thrived on the fact that this didn’t exist. Racism took hold because there was a "dark alley" of seclusion where it could develop into practices that could soak an entire culture. In our age where no one can do wrong without the world knowing over night,,, is it possible that racism will ever become a problem again. esp in a globalized country like America

Yes, its just not as obvious. They dont burn crosses in the middle of lawns anymore, but when you go job interviews its still harder for a minority to get over a job over a white person. And if you have a nice car and drive through beverly hills cops still look at you funny and might pull you over.

After the tornado that hit New Orleans i don't think it was realised in th UK just how big racism was in the US. White English holiday makers trapped in the Superbowl were told to stay together in packs,go to the toilet in groups, keep anything to hand that could be used as a weapon because of the blacks. After watching interviewed holiday makers arriving at the airport , i'd definately say that the US had a racism problem and quite frankly i'd never heard anything like it.

Racism is still alive, unfortunately...but the "color schematics" have been turned around a full 180 degrees. I've seen more blacks show racism towards white people than the other way around. And most of this racism is shown towards white people that are all for equality, no matter what...just for the simple fact that they are viewed as an easier target that won't fight back.

specific it is. it continually has been and it continually would be. however the Racism is directed interior the incorrect direction. Whites and blacks, blacks and whites. in a roundabout way those that would desire to be discriminated against look to slide throughout the cracks and relax and luxuriate interior the certainty that they are the single that are in this united states illegally and can be those that are discriminated against. There are nevertheless places interior the south (according to CNN) the place a white bus motive force made the black teenagers take a seat interior the back of the bus! That bus motive force could have been hung from the closest Cypress tree. All of that still is going on whilst the black and white races could be uniting. 9/eleven as terrible because it grew to become into drew all human beings mutually. it extremely is the place we would desire to continually have stayed, mutually.

Yes, Most Americans, white and black, see racism as a lingering problem in the United States, and many say they know people who are racist, according to a new poll.
But few Americans of either race — about one out of eight — consider themselves racist.
And experts say racism has evolved from the days of Jim Crow to the point that people may not even recognize it in themselves.
Whites and blacks disagree on how serious a problem racial bias is in the United States.
Almost half of black respondents — 49 percent — said racism is a “very serious” problem, while 18 percent of whites shared that view. Forty-eight percent of whites and 35 percent of blacks chose the description “somewhat serious.”
“I think that the issue is two fold. I believe that white America’s perception of blacks is still generally negative based on their limited interaction with blacks, whether this is via the media or in person. …
“On the other hand, black Americans need to stop devaluing themselves and their people,” he added. “Another race can only respect you if you respect yourself and currently, I find that blacks still devalue and disgrace each other and themselves.”

Racism is still around and will always be. I don't understand why people need to be racist though. Why can't everyone get along and not look at someones race, but look at who that person is.
Also I believe racism exists because people get offended by it. I am white, and when someone calls me honky or cracker, I don't get mad, I always say "ok" and go on with my life. If everyone did that, then hopefully racism will be gone, but sadly it never will be.

I don't think racism will ever leave entirely. I don't see it on a daily basis out in Los Angeles, but I'm sure it still exists. It might not be as public as it once was, but it's there.
You know how to test it?
Go on a busy street corner and wait till either 1) Two white people walk up and say something like "Hey Cracker!" or 2) Two black people walk up and say "Hey *****/******" - Now I'm white, so if I yelled "Hey *****/******" to the two black people that just said it to eachother, I'm probabaly going to have a problem. Just as if a black person yelled "Hey Cracker" or something like that to a couple white guys that just said it to eachother.
If racisim truely didn't exist anymore, I'd be able to yell across that street and greet them using the same words that people of their own race use.
