I need to write a poem based on a myth/mythology/fable/story. Is there any good myths/mythology/fables/stories that you can suggest? I tried using greek mythology (about the greek gods and all) but I found that it was not suitable. Thank you in advance!

I was reading The Picture of Dorian Gray and there was a reference to Narcissus in Greek Mythology. I looked it up on wikipedia and it was about a boy who was cursed to fall in love with his own reflection and died pursuing himself in the water. It sounds like an interesting story to write a poem about.

You can find more about the myth here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissus_%28mythology%29

Maybe try Adam and Eve, that sounds sutable for a poem. And it can written any way you want. Where you can dig deep into the story and add your own things.
Like saying sometihng like "
"The Forbiden Fruit Lied on the lucious tree
But what awaited was eternal misery

Maybe that might work. Just find any bible story that intresets you since they are easy to work with. Hope that helps.

why not one of the Grimm Brothers stories?

Ancient Egypt has some pretty good legends.

If you are going to take a fairytale, please don't use the Disney versions. They are soooooo wrong. For example, in the Disney version of the Little Mermaid, she lives happily ever after. In the real version, she loses her love and dies and turns into foam on the waves. Tragic but the real story!
