At present we are stuck under a succession of Atlantic lows, caused by air masses, normally situate south of the British Isles in winter, moving north. If air masses located to the north of us, manage to push further south and permit arctic air to penetrate then we might have snow. What we really need is the high pressure system over central Europe to move west, with a large low pressure system to our west. Since winds blow from high to low this would result in easterly winds and probable heavy snow. As weather tends to get 'stuck' in a pattern each season, I doubt if this will happen, and I doubt that we will have any significant snowfall this winter. But I could be wrong.
