I have a regular cycle in which i am on for 5 days but then off for only 15-17 days. Is this ok and what implications may it have on the "safest" time for me to have sex.

I wouldnt have sex without a condom, do i look stupid, i was just curious and i know that doesnt sound very convincing because for some reason everyone says that, what the point of lying on a question that you want answered, people dont know you do they.
I only started to record my cycles about 5 months ago and have been regularly only having just over 2 weeks off between periods.
I was also wondering, when i want to have children if my cylcles would make it easier or harder to concieve.

I think your period cycle is just fine, it is quite normal to be on for 5 days and then off for 15-17.

However, I do not think that there is any 'safe' time to have sex without risk of either becoming pregnant or getting an STD. If you do want to be 'safe' whilst having sex I would go for the 'double dutch' method if I were you. It involves using both the contraceptive pill and a condom.

A 3 week cycle is just fine. If that is what your body does, then that is what you have. I wouldn't advise trying to change it. So far as having sex, get the best answer that you can. That answer is found by visiting the Family Planning office at your local Catholic Church. They do have the best information. Followed properly, you can have the sex you want and no danger of a pregnancy, or to know when you are "hot" and will most likely become pregnant. No kind of timing is going to stop an std. Have the guy use a condom. Better yet, have him get a blood test before the 2 of you have sex. It's your health, protect it.
Go to the Catholic Family Planning office, they can tell you what you what you wish to know. I did, and went 12 years without the pill, and no pregnancy.

Usually a normal cycle is an average of 28 days from the first day of a period to the next. But every woman is different.
You ovulate in the middle of your cycle. Usually you have mucus coming out at that point.
Start keeping a closer look at your cycle. If you're still unsure go and see your doctor, just to check everything is in order.

If it is only three weeks from the beginning of one period to the beginning of the next one, this is indeed unusually short. If you have only relatively recently begun having cycles, then your body will take time to adjust. If this is something new for you after a time of "normal" cycles, then it might be time to see a doctor about going on birth control to regulate your cycles.

Given the fact that your cycles are not the norm, I would judge that there is no safe time to have sex without protection. By all means, use some form of protection if you do not wish to become pregnant.

I'm almost the exact same... My question is posted before yours lol.... I'm 7-8 days on, and 17-21 days before the next. I would recommend going on the pill to make it regular. I can't because I throw up from it, and I'd rather not be sick....
Normally the safest time would be 14 days after your last day, so if you only have 15-17, I would say around your 8-9th day after your period, you would ovulate... you can actually check when you ovulate.... Either by symtoms, or by those little pregnancy test things (to try to get pregnant). they're neat.
