Pour a kettle of hot water over it when the water starts to run clean then you have most of it out. Show her the proper way to put salt in. I couldn't do with out my dishwasher.Also when the washer is on the steam should dissolve the rest and everything should work OK. Don't put salt in unless you do what i have said other wise you will clog it up more.

There is not a salt compartment but there are 2 compartments - both for detergent. One is for the pre wash and the second is for the long wash.

Aren't the salt and detergent compartments all in the one wee place? If not, get a dishwasher like mine!

just keep running the machine it will be OK,don't add any salt for a while and it should just flush it self out, technical part,you add salt to soften the water but what happens is there are crystals in a chamber in side D/W these crystals have the job of softening the water and the salt replenishes what the crystals lose in doing so.I would keep your head down for awhile you now how the wides get touchy about there weight after all its just after xmas

Take the lid off and wash it out.
If your wife finds out you called her wide you might end up in the salt compartment

if you wife HAS put detergent in salt compartment then clean it out apologise to wide and clean dish washer and while your at it put the dishes clean of course away
