Auto transmission car are available in India. They are mainly purchased by handicapped people. Also, many rich NRI's purchase auto transmission cars because their foreign country of residence may use auto transmission cars (USA is one example) and they are used to driving with them. There are many faults with the Indian auto transmission cars. One is that auto transmission only has three (3) gears and manual has five (5) gears. I would personally choose manual transmission over auto transmission in India.

actually, why not...

indians get everything these days, so why not automatic transmission cars..

Most small and mid sized cars and almost all maruti cars are available with automatic transmission option.

Auomatic transmissions are much more convienient to drive, especially around town. But, they also consume more fuel when compared to manual transmission and hence are not usually bought.

Further, auto transmissions also make the car more expensive by about a lakh atleast.
