This is a real problem for me, whenever I try to study I tell myself 'just one more song', but then it lasts for hours and I put it off until the day before my test or an assignment is due (sometimes I put off essays until several hours before class). This coming semester I'm taking even more units plus they are more advanced classes, and I don't think I'll be able to wing it without studying anymore.
I have had this problem since the beginning of high school and could use some pointers on getting over my procrastination habbits. Anything that has worked for you or ideas at all would be appreciated.

You sound like you are a pretty bright individual, this is not an uncommon problem with bright people. It sounds to me that what ever you are doing, is not very challenging to you because you can rattle off an "acceptable" bit of work at the last minute. Here's a thought though, if you are passing in "acceptable" work, even if you get high marks for them, you clearly can do better by being better prepared and giving each assignment the time it takes to produce the best you can possibly give. I hate to say it, but doing assignments at the last minute, results in mediocre work and will result in you leading a very Mediocre life because you never learned to apply yourself %100. Here's a suggestion. As soon as you get an assignment, take it on, or organize your time that you are going to dedicate say an hour and a half a day to this assignment until it reflects your absolute best. Use your Music as a reward for yourself after each daily session, BUT, keep in mind that you probably have other assignments that need equal attention, so ration your music time accordingly, something like an hour and a half assignment entitles you to a half hour of uninterrupted music, then on to what ever is next.

when i was in high school i had the same problem i couldn't go for a day without listening to music. SO during my exams i would have my headphones in my ears, keep the volume really low and study side by side. You might find it distracting but give it a shot :)

Try getting completely away from the addictive environment. If you listen to music in your bedroom, try studying in the den--or go to the public library (and not with a bunch of friends who want to talk!).
