Prostitution has been a part and parcel of society down the ages. In the time of the rajas and maharajas the courtesans had their own status in society. Certain behavioural norms governed how the courtesans were treated and they too had their own special clients/patrons, to whom they granted favours.
Under the British rule prostitution was made illegal and the trade went underground but continued to flourish. Today it is rampant and has attached to it many stigmas and taboos, besides being a nodal point of STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases) the most deadly being AIDS.
If prostitution was legalized – sexual health of sex workers could be better regulated. More stringent measures could be taken against spread of AIDS and various other venereal diseases.
It would also empower sex workers to have a right to choose their client. They would not be forced into unwanted situations – as even after they have become sex workers they have the right to take the protection of the law from unwanted soliciting. It would also give more dignity to their profession.
Legalisation of prostitution is likely to bring down the rate of sexual crimes – and a woman may safely work the streets of a city at night without the constant fear and threat of being molested.
On the flip side it may be argued – this may possibly endanger the family structure; if sex is freely and legally available outside the home.

Should not be made legal. Definitely not there at all. Admittedly its the world's oldest profession but making it legal would mean giving the ability to get the trade going and booming, even more than now.
Right now there is a section of society that still wants to avoid interaction with prostitutes. If made legal what can be explained to the growing sea of youngsters - that its ok to go to a sex worker?? Blasphemous!!
Rather, educating the workers and encouraging them to give up on this no-investment-high -profit business venture should be the motto..NGOs can pitch in here.
A sex worker is well aware of what she/he is getting into by indulgences. so is her customer aware of all the issues involved. If stability is at all needed, let them work on it too. rather than being hungry for flesh or money

Yes, because it is one of the so-called "victimless crimes" and I believe the health and education systems deal better with them than the "criminal justice" system. Also, regulation should be kept to a minimum. The market is the best means to produce the best result. Underage sex work should be illegal but I feel the adults that use the under age sex worker and anyone setting up the worker should be prosecuted and not the under age worker. It's an under age sex issue not a sex work issue.
As with drugs, if you take something out of the underground, it will be easier to deal with on every level.

yes it should be legalized. People have a right to follow this profession, as any other. This is the oldest profession and is associated with temples, right from the old days. It brings better behaviour in the society, reduces violence, rape and other evils. In short, it creates a ready outlet for stress and mental/psychic disorders created by industrialization/ modernisation and the fast pace of society. But people who live on the prostitutes 'like pimps' must be punished legally. captial punishment should be imposed on persons dealing with children or found employing minors forcibly.

Both Prostitution(male & female) are prevalrnt in the society.
Most of the times it is for money.
It is compulsion when one is doing for survival.
Whether legalised or not, it is developing in every society.
It can be legalised in selected areas with age restrictions & medical check ups.
PEOPLE BELOW 25 MUST BE KEPT AWAY FROM THIS VENTURE.
Society must ensure that no one be compelled for this job & no one has to do it for survival.

Yes. Prostitution should be legalised and they should give receipt to rheir customers of their services, so that they could be taxed. Also, they are giving services, so they must be brought under consumer protection act and should be trialed in the courts if any matter arises regarding their services. Also, they should be made responsile and liale to compensate the customer if they spread an STD or AIDS to any customer.

nicely no human being extremely cares about the goings on with reference to prostitution (between different issues) in India, it truly is merely too smooth a count number and the accepted public opinion borders on outright indignation as a results of cultural and non secular censorship. inspite of the indisputable fact that it truly is interesting to note that those perspectives are extra cutting-edge than one can care to have self assurance. certainly historic records element out that around the time of Christ prostitution change into widespread in India and change into certainly a commerce held in extreme regard. The governement can't extremely be blamed because they could quite ignore concerning the priority altogether than bolt headlong into what might want to very in all likelihood be political suicide.

I feel it should be legalized. Its an Utopian idea to ban prostitution totally. Despite all legal banishment, its thriving. By legalizing, it could be:
1. Regulated properly.
2. Health awareness amongst the CSW(Commercial Sex Workers) could be increased and HIV/AIDS prevention and control becomes manageable.
3. Living conditions of CSW could be improved.
4. Trafficking women could be controlled.

Prostitution is an undesired aspect of Indian society. The women working in these places need social uplifting, and the men attending should be arrested and placed in jail!

Illegal activities should be removed from society in stead of legalisation of them. Money & muscle powers matters most here than any good for society.
