I was given these a couple of years ago, along with mefanemic acid. I was having prolonged, heavy, painful periods and the tablets worked like magic. However in the last 12 months I've only had 3 periods - one heavy in December 05, another heavy last Easter, and one heavy in September. I don't take the tablets unless I am actually bleeding too heavily. There is no need for you to go on taking them when you're not bleeding anyway, but in any case you should go back and tell your GP in case he does need to adjust your dose or prescribe something different.

Tranexamic acid is an anti-fibrinolytic drug, that is it acts to prevent the breakdown of the fibrin mesh which forms to produce a blood clot. The intended effect is to stop excessive bleeding.
The only advice is to see your doctor as soon as possible. It could be that your dose needs adjusting but if you have only taken them for one day it may be too early to say that it is having an adverse effect on your clotting mechanism.
