Some people say that they have smoked while pregnant and had healthy babies. But does your child have ADD or do poorly in school? These things can be a result of smoking during pregnancy too.

I could not imagine smoking while pregnant (or anytime for that matter) but to each his own. I would never risk my childs health for anything especially smoking. I think its just as important to maintain a smoke free environment after they are born as well

My mother aswell smoked when she was pregnant with me. However the instant I found out I was pregnant I stopped smoking and drinking energy drinks. However back then doctors really didnt know all the effects smoking and drinking certain stuff would do to a baby. Now that technology is so advanced and they know the side effects I much rather stay clear of all that stuff. In all honesty quitting was the best thing I have done so far and plan on sticking too it.

I smoked while pregnant w/ my daughter, but not the whole time. Probably about 5 months total. She is 4 and has ADHD according to her doctor. They put her on medication at 3. The doctors say that smoking may or may not have caused this, it can also be genetic. Is it me, or is 3 too young to medicate a child for attention deficit disorders? By the way, she is very smart and does well in school.

My mother unfortunately smoked while she was pregnant.

Because of it I was born 3 weeks late (thankfully otherwise I would have had low birth weight), with asthma, and had colic for six months. No mental problems, but there are severe health risks. Just because some people have "healthy" babies don't mean the studies are wrong - they're in the minority not the majority.

The thing is you can never really know if your child is undamaged because you may knock out some of their potential and you really don't want that. A child may seem fine, do great in school, but maybe they would have done even better. That's why you just want to try to do the best you can for them during this period. You can go back to smoking when your child isn't relying on you to achieve its potential. Good luck, I have been there and I know you can do it!

I gave up smoking with the first two pregnancies & never smoked again after that. I don't agree with smoking & without saying too much - don't really respect people who continue with damaging habits while growing a baby.
