Ok, so people say gay people choose to be gay. I really don't understand this as a straight person. See, I like the opposite sex and therefore would not want to sleep with my own. I am not choosing this, I am just attracted tot he opposite sex. So why would somebody choose to be with their own sex. So you people who are saying it's a choice and it is wrong must be attracted to your own sex if you think it is a choice? How the hell does that make any sense?

I agree with most of you, I guess what I am really asking is how do you rationalize that to yourself? I don't know, just seems silly to me.

You are so right. Nobody chooses to be gay - you are born that way. Why should we choose to be gay when we have to deal with so much homophobia as indicated in answers to many of the questions in this section. Those who think there is a choice are either complete idiots or are attracted to the same sex but do not have the guts to admit it. So don't be confused - there is not confusion in the minds of gays. It's only straights who try to make out there is a choice when there is not.

The complex of god has nothing to do with the debate on whether or not people choose to be gay.
Honey there will always be idiots around who think that homosexuality is a choice, because being straight they assume that nobody can be anything but what they are and understand. Yet somehow they can claim that no one can understand the way god works and still believe in him, yet not gay people. People fear, demoralize, and discredit that which they don't understand. And THAT is nature's real way.

Very good point. I think that the people who say that have to somehow justify there hate, and thats how they do it. It is not a choice, if it where a choice, who the hell would choose to be gay? Its a hard life to live, we get ridiculed, looked at in public, have hate crimes, cant marry, dont have the same rights, its just rediculous to think that anyone would choose this life over one of being considered "normal".
Me personally, if given the choice, I would still choose to be gay, because I couldnt possible choose to be straight, because diick grosses me out! lol.

A Friend asked me the same question a few years ago after her separation from an emotionally abusive husband of 20 years. My answer to her was that she was not necessarily looking for a gay relationship but rather she was looking for love. At that juncture of her life another woman was able to give her the love that her husband couldn't or wouldn't give to her . After a period of time her soul healed . She now has a relationship with another man . I never once told her that being gay was right or wrong . I only supported her decision and how she felt about herself. I am not saying that this is typical in the choice of being gay or straight . Only that it is a CHOICE very personal and very private . A person no matter what gender they prefer sexually who goes out just to have sex has deeper issues than gender preference

it's not a choice for most people, it's how they were born.
Straight people were born straight and want the opposite sex, and it's the same for gay people.
I think the only people who *choose* to be gay are people who have been hurt and used too many times by the opposite sex so they think they'll be safer with the same sex, only then is it a choice. Otherwise, they are born that way.

It doesn't make any sense. Sexist bigots have to believe that homosexuality is a choice. If they do not acknowledge that it is inborn, they must acknowledge the statement "I disagree with homosexuality," is a parallel with the statement "I disagree with someone being black," since people are born black and people are born gay.
There really is nothing substantial scientifically to back up the idea of choosing your sexual orientation. I believe 99% of all homosexuals believe they had no choice in the matter. Plus twin studies and cross-cultural studies have also proven the matter is inborn. If homosexuality were a "choice" then secularist societies would have higher incidences of homosexuality than more traditional societies. They don't.

The way I look at it as a straight person, why would any one choose to be a way that has you ostracized, ridiculed, disowned, discriminated against. Sometimes beaten, murdered and in some countries legally put to death. Makes no sense. You have no choice like you have no choice if you will be left or right handed.

As a bisexual woman (love these generic avatars ;-), I can assure you that it isn't a choice. It just is. The only choice is whether to live in denial of who we really are or embrace our true and complete selves.
The are a hundred different rationalizations, but they're all just that. What a homophobe says tells you far more about his or her mental state than anything accurate about the rest of the sexual spectrum.

I dont agree with that ideal so I asked the question of a family member who was raped as a child by another family member and then molested by her step dad, was that her curse to be raped cause now she dates only woman and I dont blame her one bit for being so disgusted by guys....people like you and others who answer seriously are why I continue to read Yahoo Answers!

Its not a choice, I didn't wake up one morning and say to myself, you know being gay sounds like fun, I think I'm going to be gay. Why would anyone choose to be gay? Anyone who tells you we choose to be gay is smoking to much crack, or they are hypocritical Christians that take the bible totally out of context.
