Actually, you want to make as little money as possible. At Cornell, admissions are need-blind, which means they accept top students, regardless of their ability to pay.
His SATs will be the key. If he can score above 2100 on the SATs, he will receive merit scholarships at many colleges. He may even receive a full scholarship.
But the reason you want to make as little money as possible in his junior and senior year is because you will be submitting the FAFSA form for financial aid qualifications. The lower your income is on your income tax form in the year he is applying to college, the less his "expected parental contribution" will be.
If your income remains low throughout his college years, he will keep on receiving grants to make up the difference between the cost of tuition and the "expected parental contribution."
Finally, you should make sure he applies to schools other than Cornell as well. Not everyone gets into their first choice school. And there are excellent architecture programs elsewhere, even at some state schools. For example, if you live in Ohio, and if your income is under $35,000 annually, your son would qualify for free tuition at Miami University in Ohio, which has a very good architecture program.
Best wishes to you!

Scholarships and loans or he can attend a college that doesn't cost so much. It won't make that much of a difference.

you probably can't raise that money, but he can try for a full scholarship for his grades. then, after he graduates, he can pay them back with his huge salary.
