A few hours ago I took a nasty spill down some stairs. I was wearing socks and my stairs are carpeted. The corner of one stair hit me directly in my middle back and the corner of the other stair directly on the back of my neck. My head whipped back and hit the top of the stair pretty hard. Shortly after (winthin 5 minutes) I began to get a headache behind my eyes and nose...not so severe but uncomfortable. My headache has not gone away nd I have been getting slight throbbing behind my nose. Other than that I feel Ok. there is a slight difference in size in my pupils. I called a friend who said take 2 Aspirin every 4 hours but then I read about how you shouldnt sleep after maybe having a concussion because the head injury may be worse than one thinks. I have no health insurance at the moment so I would like to know what others would do or to hear about any information that anyone has on unequal pupils and what that means...

Get your self to the Emergency room Immediately.. and worry about insurance later..
it doesn't sound like concussion to me, u could have intracranial hemorrhage.. and it could be very serious.. especially if you have nausea and vomiting.. unequal pupil size is indicative in this case..

Bleeding (hemorrhage) inside the skull may accompany a head injury and cause additional damage to the brain. A blood clot (hematoma) may occur if a blood vessel between the skull and the brain ruptures; when the blood leaks out and forms a clot, it can press against brain tissue, causing symptoms from a few hours to a few weeks after the injury. If the clot is located between the bones of the skull and the covering of the brain (dura), it is called an epidural hematoma. If the clot is between the dura and the brain tissue itself, the condition is called a subdural hematoma. In other cases, bleeding may occur deeper inside the brain. This condition is called intracerebral hemorrhage or intracerebral contusion (from the word for bruising).

In any case, if the blood flow is not stopped, it can lead to unconsciousness and death. The symptoms of bleeding within the skull include:

- nausea and vomiting
- headache
- loss of consciousness
- unequal pupil size
- lethargy

so please.. don't worry about insurance now.. this could be VERY SERIOUS !

And like RaveN the knife freak said.. have someone drive u to the hospital.. cuz u ur consciousness might fail u at some point.

I am sorry you fell. This website http://vision.about.com/od/basiceyehealth/a/pupilsizes.htmstates:
states:

"Unequal pupil sizes (anisocoria) are found in up to 20% of the general population, and may not signal anything abnormal. In some cases, however, unequal pupil sizes can be a symptom of many diseases or conditions such as Head injury or concussion."

.Because you fell, you should at least call a hospital and get some advice about whether or not you should go in and be checked over.

You shouldn't take asprin until you consult with a health care professional.

Unequal pupils suggest a serious concussion with perhaps intracranial bleeding. Do not take aspirin as it will enhance bleeding, but you need to go to an ER...Only a hands-on physician can advise you now....not the internet. It's your life!

from experience unequal pupils is a sign of brain injury, may be severe and maybe not.

but what you just had is a concussion the unequal pupils is blood accumulated pressing on a nerve and its creating the pupil dilation

if your left pupil is wider than normal, then your right side of your brain has sustained injury and vise versa.

have someone take you to the hospital and check you out. dont go by yourself in a vehicle because you might lose consciousness

WHO CARES IF YOU DONT HAVE INSURANCE! HAVE IT CHECKED OUT!!
90 percent of people who dont want medical attention because of no insurance, end up worsening if it is a serious situation

im not an expert but the info is from what i have read

Just ignore it. Take more asprin and if you can find any of your grandma's coumadin take that too. Nothing bad could possibly happen. Just go to sleep where no one will find or bother you for at least 24-36 hours. If you can get ahold of some vicodin take a couple and maybe a beer or a glass of red wine, it makes the vicoden work lots better.

dont go to sleep! Always try to stay awake and alert. I suggest taking a headache pill of some kind, but if, after 30 mins, you still feel funny, then maybe you should ring a doctor and ask for advice.
It's always worth checking these things out thoroughly.

Amazing how some rocket scientist suggested aspirin. Lets get that blood nice and thin with that head bleed, by God.
