I presume you are talking about an imperial ton and not a metric tonne? It also depends upon where you are as well, as a ton in the UK is slightly different to a US ton (not sure why to be honest)

Anyway the conversions are as follows:-

There are 14 pounds (lbs) in a stone.
and there are 2240 lbs in a UK (aka long) ton
Thus 2240 / 14 = 160 stones per UK ton

Now for a US (aka short) ton
there are 2200 lbs in a US ton
Thus 2000 / 14 = 142.857 stones per US ton

Finally for a metric tonne,
there are 2204.6 lbs per metric tonne
Thus 2204.6 / 14 = 157.47 stones per metric tonne

See website below for conversions

Hope this helps

This depends on whether you are in the UK or US.

In the UK 1 ton = 20 hundredweight = 2240 pounds = 160 stones as we use the avoirdupois system.
In the US 1 ton = 2000 pounds = 142.85714690644983 stones as they use a different measuring system.
There is also a metric ton which is 1000Kg = 157.4730444177697 stones.

Quite complicated question really!

There's a short ton and a long ton in avoirdupois The short one has 2000 pounds and the long one has 2240 pounds. One's US and one's British as another answerer said.
