because sex is bad here. the government treats adults like kids by not even letting us watch certain things it finds racy. You want what you can't have. Prostitution would be great, to see again in America. It would cut out a lot of sex crimes due to availability and cooperation
George Carlin once said " Eliminate the Catholic church and sex crimes would dramatically decrease in 15 years" I think thats funny, but unrealistic
Keep treating sex as something dirty and keep knocking girls self esteem into the ground, and the sex crimes will continue.

Well we have higher crime in general, and there's all sorts of theories about why that is. But even though we have a higher recorded rate of sex crimes, the sex crime stats for the States have actually been steadily declining since 1993.
From the European sexual assault survivors I have spoken with they do not have a very good network of crisis centers and advocates to help them in dealing with doctors and police. So even less victims report over there than they do over here. I think that skews the data a lot.
It's very interesting to note that in the US whenever there is a highly publicized incident of sexual assault the number of calls to hotlines goes up. And it's not because all of a sudden more people were raped. It means the extra outreach that crisis centers do during that time is being effective and more people are reporting. It's the same thing for the month of April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. All of a sudden more people choose to come forward because the info is being publicized.
So I don't have a hard and fast answer for you, but I definitely think it has more to do with the level of understanding a survivor can expect when trying to make a report. And in many European countries they don't have that support network. Therefore the stats don't accurately reflect the actual level of sex crimes.

In many European countries sex offenses are not reported or if they are they are disregarded. In middle eastern and Islamic cultures if a sex crime is reported the Woman stands a great risk of being murdered by Her own family, this making many crimes go unreported. In Asian culture many countries do not acknowledge sexual assault against Women and Children as a crime. The U.S.A. records and makes public the statistics regarding deviant crimes and sexual offenses in an attempt to protect future generations from this aberrant behavior. They set an example that much of the world should follow for the benefit of Women and Children everywhere.

Most countries collect data on the total number of crimes recorded but the manner and level of recording can vary quite sigificantly, making direct comparisons difficult. Reasons for differing recording practices include:
Different legal and justice systems
Different definitions of offences, and the offences that are included in the official figures
Rates at which crimes are reported to the police and recorded by them
The rules by which multiple offences are counted
Data quality
With these caveats in mind, the report draws the following conclusions
Total Crime
Over the period 1997-2001 crime rose by an average 4% across the EU. The greatest rises were in France, Greece and Portugal (16%), and the greatest drops were in Italy and Denmark. England & Wales saw a fall of 2% over this period (see graph)

re attitudes towards prostitution
excerpt from link
quote
The Council of Europe is looking for ways to standardize laws on prostitution on the continent. But not everyone is in favor of legalizing the oldest profession in the world.
Prostitution is colloquially called "the oldest profession in the world," but its legalities are still debated. Throughout Europe, especially in eastern European counties, it is a contested issue. In Ukraine and Albania, people are not permitted to sell their bodies, and the men and women who do are tracked down and punished.
Sweden approaches prostitution very differently: only the customers of prostitutes are punished. France, Belgium, England and other nations have completely done away with laws regulating prostitution. Prostitutes live in the shadows of society in those nations; procuration, however, is against the law.

_____
Again.....regional differences.
Prostitution IS LEGAL in Nevada.
Your question gives impression that Europeans have some sort of "carefree" attitude towards prostitution.
Would more accurate description of attitude be "resigned"?
Pornography?
Got the Internet here in U.S.A.
I can walk half a block to convenience store and buy porn mags and videos.
The stores keep them in corner somewhere....kinda covered up.
I have been in some great strip clubs in Alaska...full nudity...and a bar to boot.
Got plenty of strip clubs in U.S.A.
And that varies state by state.
I don't know if you define that as porn.
Europeans might have more liberal attitude towards NUDITY.
I don't know about porn....never been there.
If you got stats and links you could add to detail.
