Check your local R.E.I. they have climbing walls and lessons in some locations.. My brother in law climbs in Switzerland.. He learned there after landing a job with a major drug researcher back in the 80's. He comes back to the US and climbs ever 3 yrs. IF you in Ca., you can take lessons in Yosemite National Park

maybe u can start by joining a climbing forum to find out more abt the sport? :)
they also organise climbing activities for the members of the forum and u could start by joining them on the trip.
