Firstly, i'm genuinely happy reading this question. Anyways when reciting the Shahada with your heart you are officially a Muslim. The rest of the Muslim community would be very happy to accept you, if you have any questions i'm sure many of the knowledgable individuals would be available to answer them. You could go to your local mosque and talk to the Muslims there, i'm certain you would be very welcome to your Islamic community. It seems like you have done your research so you will be aware of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia. If you look at the people doing Hajj, you will see both men and women, black, white, oriental, what ever the colour of their skin... All these different looking people standing together wearing white as they perform their Hajj. You can't tell one race from the other in all the crowd because Islam is a unification of people. Every race and gender is equal in Islam. The first step of Islam is the Shahada, you can take the rest of the steps slowly. Don't feel you need to learn to read Arabic quickly in order to read Namaaz (The 5 daily prayers) or the Qur'an. My sister has Down Syndrome, she can't read Arabic but she MarshALLAH prays through the day even though she does not know the words. She stands and does the actions of namaaz, mixes them up but it's okay because ALLAH is the only ONE who is accepting the prayer. She prays with good intentions and that is what ALLAH will judge her upon. ALLAH will judge you with the intention behind your actions, if you meant good by your actions but things went wrong, it will be alright. Don't be afraid of making mistakes, as long as you ask for forgiveness, the Alll Mighty ALLAH will forgive you for He is the Most Merciful. Good Luck my soon-to-be Brother of Islam

Thank god for freedoms unparalled in this earthly sphere , fought and died for by maybe some of his friends and kin.
Thanks for the brave men and women who are fighting so that we and the next generations have that freedom.
Amen.

I guess it proves that just because someone is a professor, it doesn't mean he's actually SMART.
