I always see the jars of blue liquid but never anyone putting anything in them.

I don't trust the small unknown salons and can't afford a well known salon so I stay out of both. I don't think they sanitize all the time. The times I went with my cousin they pulled out a hair brush from the drawer and pulled out some hair and then used it on her. My hair is to the back of my knees and if they put lice or something on me I wouldn't forgive them.

When you get to the shop you should make sure that the combs are in the blue liquid. That is the only way for sure that you will know whether or not the combs and brushes are being sanitized.

Hairdressers are licensed professionals. A good part of their training and licensing has to do with healthy practices, so they can get into a lot of trouble if they don't sanitize. The ones I've seen do, but I couldn't say what others are doing. There are some doctors who don't wash their hands.

If you are worried, just ask your hairdresser if she or he sanitizes the combs and brushes, because...

only your hairdresser knows for sure!

I do! And so does everyone else in all the salons i've ever worked in. Whatever I use on a client, I will keep on top of my station and once they leave and I clean up, I take them to the dispensary (room with washer/dryer, sink, etc.) and wash them and put them in the sanitizer. The sanitizer is changed everyday and before combs are even put in them, they are washed in hot water and soap.

i always see them adding the combs to the blue liquid but what is that liquid? and how often is it changed?
and do they clean the combs?
because last time i went to the hairdressers, i saw the same comb inserted into that bottle of blue liquid and used on various clients .. then it was used on MY HAIR ARGHHH

all i could think is germs ... more germs ..

Why don't you ask your stylist that question ? The blue stuff is called Barbicide. If your stylist isn't putting her combs in it then I would say something or change the Salon you frequent. Its very important to sterilize combs ect.

My girlfriend is a professional stylist and she recommend you change salons and call the state board of cosmetology (yahoo search it) to report the salon. She always sanitizes, but we also know that there are salons which do not.
