Should celebrities be prevented from entering politics?

Yes, definitely. Hmmm.. Because it's not the line of their expertise, they say they would want to serve the people but i doubt it and even if it were true they wouldn't be able to serve well if their knowledge of the law just came from what they were taught by their parents, or what they've watched or portrayed in the movies. Coz in being able to serve one should know how to serve...
Besides in however you look at it, it's quite impossible to have a celebrity run the government and make it prosper. Say Former President Estrada, action star, how did he manage to serve? by passing a law on Carabaos? It may be useful in a little way but with such power, one could make a great impact, the right impact where citizens could make use. He could only make laws on the limitation of his knowledge.
So, maybe,... for celebrities like Richard Gomez, or Manny Pacquio,... they could better serve the people where they are best at, ^_^

No. In a free society, no one should be prevented to run for office or to advocate a particular political or social point of view just because they are famous (or not famous).

If celebrities are prevented from entering politics, then each political party will be fighting about which person is really a celebrity. The Democrats will say Arnold Schwarzenegger is one and cannot run for governor of California or later on, maybe for the US Senate because of his past show business status.

The Republicans will say Hillary Clinton is one for having been a First Lady of the U.S. and a best selling author (twice) and therefore, cannot run for President! We'll have more of a mess than if we just let everyone run and let the voters decide their fates at the poll.

I wish I could,,, but u got the problem from the wrong end!!
First, people should be more responsible & cognitive....
Second, u cannot define the bounds of 'celebrity'... (like, I am mistaken on an aircraft, not allowed to borad - then camera crew gets that - wow!! I am charismatic, and might exceed many celebrities - and decide to run for politics...
Bottom line is the people/masses should take out the time to Comprehend, before voting.

Yes! should have started with R.Reagan. Followed by "Fred Thompson,Sonny Bono, and "Gopher" from love boat. But since this is America where our officials are elected by the people, for the people. then why do you feel the need to be convinced? And what have you got against celebrities. Are they not just as capable of holding office as you? Do you not like them? Do you not ever watch them on t.v. or listen to them on the radio, or read about them?
Celebrities are Americans, voters, have rights too. Before they were celebrities, they were just unknown (by you) Americans.

Well...I personally think that Ronald Reagan was one of the best presidents we have had because of his role in the breakdown of the Cold War. And he was a movie star before he was president.

I would like to yes because a lot of the celebrities today are just liberal and angry people, but I guess everyone has to have something they believe in. This is America and no one can "prevent" anyone from doing anything. Just becuase they don't have the same viewpoints as us doesn't mean they wouldn't do a good job.

I guess it really depends on the celebrity. That's actually a really intriguing question...makes you think. There are some celebrities that have a good head on their shoulders and aren't too caught up in the business. Lindsay Lohan would make an amazing president. Too bad sarcasm can't be portrayed through typing. (I'm KIDDING.) They shouldn't use their celeb status to help them get their way to the top though. Anyways...have fun reading these answers!

I don't think celebrities should be prevented from entering politics (as in "running for office"), but I do think that they should stop trying to use their "celebrity status" to endorse candidates and political ideologies UNLESS they are the ones seeking political office.

It depends who the celebrity is. If it is someone stupid who is only famous for having rich parents who own hotels *cough* then no, but there are people who are famous for being smart or for being in politics, so for those people there is no reason why they shouldn't be.
