OK I have tried everything possible to get into the menu of my DSL Router. It is a Westell wirespeed 2100 from Verizon. I tried 192.168.1.1 (the default address) and DSLROUTER in my address bar. nothing works I get "the page cannot be displayed." I need to forward a port. someone please help.

My internet connection is fine. I just need to access my router. Ive gone to portfoward.com and Ive tried their directions. I need to access my router to complete the process. Verizon cant help me, the "tech" quit on me. They were no help at all.

I looked up the documentation online for this router; your address appears to be right. At the risk of upsetting you, I'm going to ask... are you connected to the router by a cat-5 cable, is there power to the router, and is the router turned ON if there is a switch? Until you set up directly WITH A HARD-WIRED CONNECTION, you won't be able to "talk" to the router, even if it's a wireless router. If you DO have a cat-5 cable connection already and there is power to the router and the router is turned on (if there's a switch), then I'd say you have a bad router; you need to contact Verizon and get it replaced.

If you know that your router address is 192.168.1.1 and you get the page cannot be displayed then do the following:

go to tools, internet option
connections tab, lan settings
select bypass proxys erver for local addresses
click advanced and put 192.168.1.1 in the exceptions box.
Close the browser and try again

Your router's address may have been changed. Open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG and press Enter. The default gateway is your router's IP address. HTTP to that IP address and you should be in.

Maybe your default address is no longer your default address, you can try and holding the reset button for a few seconds, and then once it resets try entering your IP address once more and see if this time you'll get to the menu.

Verizon has software I think you need to install. Here's agood website for port forwarding. http://portforward.com/. You should start with Run>cmd> in teh command module type ipconfig/all to see if there is connectivity. Then type ping localhost. and then ping www.google.com to see if you are connected.
