Do soem leg work first like get teachers to sign soemthingto the effect of giving you progress reports for the rest of the year or plan on dropping a sport or other cirricular activity to show you're committed to doing better. Have all this ready to show you rparents when you break the news.

You should let her see the report card ASAP and get it over with. She is bound to be disappointed at first, so let her get that out her system first. Then the two of you should sit and talk calmly about the situation at school.
If it's just one F for one subject, you can talk to her about possible extra tuition for that or at least tell her ways that you intend to improve the situation next semester.
Tempting though it always is, try not to blame other people for your grades.

hmm thats a tough one. Could you tell her you've been having some trouble and you really need extra help but you were too proud/shy/embarrassed to ask. You have to have help cause you need to get better than an F next time round. Don't sweat it I'm sure she'll get over it eventually. Tell her sooner rather than later.

Well, you should accept of what was done wrong and tell your mom the very good reasons why you have a bad grade. Hopefully she'll understand but obviously expect punishment.

First tell her something worse than this and then tell her about it, it will reduce the shock.
Then promise to improve your self. But really not just a promise, study!
