It has been decriminalized in some provinces, which is not the same as legalized. If you are carrying a small amount that is clearly for personal use and not for trafficking, then you will only get a fine, and not a jail term. It is still illegal to sell it or to have large quantities. In Alberta, where I live, and particularly in my city, there is a huge unofficial festival in the park downtown every 4:20 (the 20th of April, at 4:20 PM) where crowds of people get together and smoke huge amounts of weed. The cops watch and do nothing, they know we'll do it anyway. Also, in reference to previous comments about the IV drug program, it is to curb the spread of diseases like HIV and Hepatitis. The drug users have access to free clean needles and places to dispose of them. Wouldn't you rather that they were using designated bins (and a lot of them actually do) then to leave them on the sidewalk where kids can find them?

I live in British Columbia (BC bud) and it is decriminalized, not legal. It means you don't get time for it or a real record. Basically they don't care if they bust you for anything under 1/2 pound (it is personal). They will rip your plants up and burn them, but not charge you. Province to province it varies - I wouldn't want to grow pot in Saskatchewan or even smoke a doobie because they WILL put you in jail. We have regular smoke-ins on the legislature grounds and the cops don't care.

(ps. I'm 46 and a child of the 70s - I don't smoke any more but am all in favour of it being legalized).

Small quantities for personal use is legal. Law enforcement has better things to do. Canada wide

As for IV use, Vancouver has a safe place for junkies to inject and get clean needles, as to curb infectious sometimes deadly diseases.

Only in the green district and I believe only in B.C.

The green district is a tiny area where anything goes, it's pretty sad but all of the crazyness is sequestered there.

They even have public injection sites for IV drug use

It's decriminalized. Don't carry a pound.

The f***ers should all be shot on site, kill the druggy scum. Ya i know doing so would reduce the worlds population, but thats what the human race needs...a good purging.
