I've always wondered the same thing myself. Why are women not allowed to show their boobies? It's not fair. A man can walk down the street topless, mow the lawn topless, be in any public situation TOPLESS, but a woman can go to JAIL for indecent exposure if she walks around topless. It's just so unfair. What is so *TABOO* about a woman's boobs and nipples?

I think if men are going to walk around topless then they should have to have their nipples covered too! lol

America was founded by a relatively Puritannical group of people; it's still very religious as compared with most European nations. It's only now, with more widespread education, that Americans are starting to question those values. Don't forget that the U.S. is a VERY young country by European standards, and although it was built on European knowlege, it was also built by people who rejected much of that society, and traveled across the Atlantic to be free of it. It has slowed down the educational process as a whole, but it certainly fostered independence and creativity, and ultimately, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else on earth. Give us some time, be patient with us, and we'll catch up to other places in terms of attitudes about morality.

Fortunately, this is changing. There are more and more places here wehere it's OK for girls to be topless any place a guy can be. Here in NY, where I live, it's been legal for a few years. It's also legal in some parts of Canada and "tolerated" if not legal in many other parts of the US.

North americans have to sexualize everything. Its stupid. I dont understand why americans make such a big deal about boobs. Why woman can't go topless at the beach, or breastfeed their babies in public. Men can go topless, whats the big deal there? A breast does not have to be a sexual thing, but apparently in the USA, it is. What a load of bologne.

You are not completely correct. In Toronto, and as far as I know all of Ontario, Canada, you are allowed to go topless, as long as your breasts are not being used for advertising (Strip club) or for any other type of commercial gain.
So feel free to tan your puppy's in God's Country. That would be..Canada

Because, in civilized countries, the religious fundies who go wacko over this sort of thing are properly shamed and keep their inane superstitutions in the closet. Over here, they run things. Remember--we didn't just get the ambitious people trapped in a static feudal structure with that "give us your poor, your tired..." inscription, we also got all the religious whackjobs who were rightfully persecuted in their native lands.

America tends to be more Conservative or closed minded toward nudity, where as the European world is more open. Its been grinded into our heads that the human form is "dirty" and because of that its Taboo to be nude or show nudity on the TV.

It is allowed in North America, but usually at private pools where you have to pay to get in.

Puritan view.
Also, nipples are wonderfully erotic, men would be embarrassed if they had erections all the time.
And, the work ethic, nothing would get done, we would be a third world country, lol.

Because boobs are only seen as sexual things and not for what their real purpose is (to feed a baby). I can't comment on how many nasty looks I have gotten while breastfeeding in public.
