AMD will give you more for the same money.

FYI ... they do not generate errors as opposed to the Intel...that is totally ridiculous....
...if true they would have been out of business a long time ago.

Get an AMD64 X2 4600+ or higher on an AM2 socket motherboard.
Unlike the Intel dual core sockets the AM2 (940) will allow you to upgrade to a quad core processor once they are available.

As for speed, well don't go too crazy over benchmarks. Yes SOME Intel core2duo processors perform better on SOME applications than the AMD (for the most part), however it's like knocking a Porche because the Ferrari is faster.... they are both monster machines.

.... odds are that neither you nor I would know the difference.

With all due respect the modest fellow who likes to show his "credentials" (second answer) is way out in space on this one. I have no idea where he gets his info....or his credentials for that matter.

Hi there;

They are both reasonably the same price wise.
The AMD chip runs a bit warmer than an Intel and IMHO handles graphics better.
The trick is to sister up the CPU with a good mobo designed to handle that CPU. If you are looking for a good all round system then either one will do.
If you are looking at gaming then by all means go with a good AMD. ( My opinion only others may differ).
When you use the AMD sister (match up) with nVidia cards and you should have a great system to knock around.
Depending on where or who you purchase your CPU from there really isn't much of a difference in price.
Price is really dependent on what your mobo demands.
Once you have found out what your mobo needs (socket etc.) then go shopping.
You can check out online reputable places like tigerdirect or newegg for starters.
Good luck.

its not speed... its what u doo

...
*shakes head*

AMD - SHOOTS OUT CODE LIKE MAD... does not go back to check redundancy or errors good for gaming or any thing else that doesnt need to be dead on accurate at all time no matter what unlike business (NOT FOR CAD PROGRAMS REALLY) VIDEO ASWELL

INTEL -- checks errors make sure its good aswell as hyper threading in better ones, if u do programming or business u want this

as for the cheaper side... i would personally say AMDs are a little more expensive(those who game do it well spend about a G on vid cards ram and stuff)

business get intels at bulk, so intel can pass it onto you,,

remember,,, game programming has to be dead on accurate too

so they make it on an intel and play it on an AMD.,.. so really a intel SHOULD be cheaper by economics, and i think they are

Intel is leader. AMD is follower. AMD trying to lead in font of AMD.
But til now they could not. AMD easily get warm while intel not.
AMD is cheap because they easily get faulty unless you take care of it regularly.
Let see who's hands make this? More important.
