It's like having Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken hanging out with you all of the time. Neither one can think for themselves long enough to conceed a point. Party Line? They walk it!!!!

wow! I would get some pop corn and invite them both over every now and then to sit back laugh at them!
:D
lucky you.
I have a few sloppy rightwingers I know and one hardcore left wingnut friend. Getting them together is out of the question however. :(

You friends should be told to look at the example of Jim Carville and Mary Matelin, who are politically as opposite to each other as Limbaugh to Franken if not more so but are happily married to each other. As far as everyone knows, their marriage is still solid after all those years (almost 14) and they are still very much in love.

It's so interesting to watch Carville and Matalin on TV debating each other from opposing points of view. They are as fiercely partisan as anyone can be but always address each other as "honey". One can see there's love between those two.

Some cynics can say Carville and Matalin only put on an act but I don't think so. The Democrats wouldn't have entrusted Jim with sensitive campaign information and strategies and the Republicans wouldn't have done the same with Mary had each party not believed in the absolute loyalty of the person who worked in their organization.

The point is, if Carville and Matalin can be politically opposite to each other and yet happily married to each other, why couldn't you two friends be the same in politics but be good friends to each other also? If they truly become good friends to each other, they can still maintain their respective partisan view and do not have to compromise at all.

You will be a better position then also, being able to enjoy their political duelling and yet knowing you three are all good friends to one another. It's like being able to watch the Carville-Matalin debate live anytime you wish. Just invite them over to your house for coffee!

It used to be the rule not to discuss politics or religion at the dinner table. Of the 6 billion things going on in the world tell your friends you don't want to hear it, and if they care about the politics or each other, they should try a little respect.

Like my best friend and I, we made a deal not to talk about politics where we clash , but we talk about other topics such as Art ,where we have common grounds.
My suggestion is to give them good wine or Valium and taboo political subjects, if the conversations changing direction toward that way, turn the table with a joke or start a new topics that both enjoy.

If all they can do is argue about politics, make a rule that there can be no political talk when you're all out together. If that's not possible, just see each one separtely. It can't be much fun being with two people who are like Rush and Al.

Yeah it's tough sometimes. I have a couple friends who are opposite of my views but we have a lot of other things in common too. We just agree to disagree. It's funny if we do get into a debate we always end up with the same conclusion that both of the "big" parties have a lot of flaws and need to be held more accountable for their actions. Especially how they spend our money.

Well first off I have friends that think different on politics than I do. We never speak politics so we can keep out friendship. If we did the friendship would be doomed. We made a promise to never speak on politic or religion.

Not good to discuss politics or religion in a "social" "fun" environment. Try to change the subject and love your friends for who they are. Or, don't mix company.

OMG! You've just described my family!

We just don't talk about anything politically oriented: elections, the war, political candidates, political issues, religion, etc.

I would ask them not to discuss politics in my presence. Don't they know its not a good idea to discuss politics, religion or abortion when people have differing opinions? Talk about heated discussions!
