I started thinking about what a world might be like without sex taboos and restrictions, but with reliable birth control and std prevention. I mean, we’re moving in that direction right? Conventional wisdom is that men want to have sex with as many women as possible to spread their seed, but women invest more into their children and therefore are choosier because they have an instinct to want good genes for their kids.

I read an article that says women are good at finding cues in guys faces as to whether they’d be a better fling or a better provider. Turns out, when women ovulate they are most attracted to men with features that suggest strong testosterone – hotties if you will. However, for the rest of the month, women want men with softer features that are more likely to provide a stable life.

So, if there were no sexual taboos, and instead of being conditioned to want to lock up ours and other sexuality, we were raised to not be judgmental and jealous, I think it might go something like this: men would still try to get as much action as they could, but women’s preferences would tend to divide men into two non-excsusive categories: hot guys for hook ups, and guys who are long term material. In fact, I think they do this now – but instead of doing the hook up thing in their twenties and settling down towards their thirties, they might do both at the same time. Have their hook ups using protection for thrills and satisfaction when they need it, but for the bulk of the month be with their partner and have children with him.

Its not unheard of. Most bird are monogamous in that they have life partners, but most females still have sex with young males with high testosterone during prime fertilization, while an older male maintains the nest and assists in raising – most like because he’s had sex with the female much more over a long period, making the eggs not unlikely his.

So what if our world was organized like this? Would women enjoy it? Would men enjoy it? What role would you most likely fill? What role would be the best/ worst, and why?

Hi,

I agree with your observation that this structure is pretty much in place now, but perhaps more prevalent with women in their mid to upper 30's, (I don't think age applies with guys...as you point out men are pretty much always on the prowl).

The taboos seem to become less and less restrictive as society evolves. Consider what type of sexual values/behavior is acceptable now versus 10, 20 or 30 years ago.

Also, I believe that the roles you describe have always been, just less out in the open. Our nature is our nature, no?

Fascinating and provocative question!

that would be nice. in fact it would make a better place to live in. but, things are not likely to be that way. there r to many fundamentalist that would crucify [literally speaking] every one who stood in there way. what u say is the way the animal kingdom behaves, the games people play are not for the birds but for others they are scared . I have always believed honesty to be the best policy. females r taken back by this though. what a real shame. for they no not what they miss out on.then there are the ones that r worth it & know it. but they also know that most men r not worth the effort. those are the smart ones & r very hard to find. since i am so picky in who i mess around with, it becomes far & few that r not taken. i have had one excellent love in my life. so maybe i am alittle greedy in trying to find another. u have a good head on ur shoulders. keep it there & do not let some one else's thinking alter that for u! see what i mean about the people who r reacting to ur ? already. but the truth is we are animals. we just happen to be on top of the food chain, at least for the time being!

I think it would be chaotic, I mean I do not think you can teach people not to be jealous, and people are territorial, women do not like to know that men are sleeping with other women, so I don't think it would work. Tho you have a good point about lifting all of the sexual taboos and being more open, and it is a very good question, wish I could help more. But I am more about loving sex than hot sex so that might taint my answer

First make Christianity, Islam, many other religions and everyone with good moral and family values disappear. Then find a cure for Aids.
And keep living in your little world without true love or morals where you can justify your affair.
We're people, not animals.
