Gender dysphoria, or gender identity disorder, as identified by psychologists is a condition in which a person has been assigned one gender, but feels belonging to another gender. It is an alternative term for what is widely known as transsexuality and, although subject to debate, transvestism or cross-dressing. In many cases, discomfort (dysphoria is the greek word for discomfort) is reported as coming from the feeling that one's body anatomy is the wrong one.
