So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

Whether there are aliens or not is anyone's guess, so it's really an odds game. Whether they are visiting us now is another odds game, and the odds are not good.
For aliens to visit us, some conditions need to be met.
1. There must be intelligent life on another planet. For all but the last few seconds of Earth's history, compressed into a twenty-four hour scale, there has been no intelligent life on this planet. For all but the last seventy years or so, we couldn't send signals into outer space, much less visit it, and we still can barely send probes out of our solar system. Even if there is life on other planets, the odds that it can construct space-going vehicles are slim.
2. The intelligent life must be able to reach earth. Assuming the aliens have space travel, they need to be able and willing to find Earth and come on over. We haven't found an Earth-like planet so far, so they must be very far away. This makes visiting us inconvenient. Why bother?
3. The intelligent life must be space-faring and exploring our solar system at the same time that our own intelligent life is alive and waiting for aliens. Repeating the fact that human industry is a blip in the history of life on Earth, and assuming that alien space exploration has only been going on for, say, as long as the dinosaurs ruled, the odds are good that any alien space-farers either existed and died off eons before we came along, or they haven't arisen yet.
Remember, the probability of several events occurring simultaneously is the product of all of them, which is much smaller than the smallest probability.
I conclude that the theory that UFO abductions are actually stories of sleep paralysis is much more likely.

You are right about the aliens, even with no proof I think we can accept them as a fact.
We may one day get proof of their existence but we will never meet them.
UFO stands for unidentified flying object how one interprets this
is a matter of preference.

are you talking about intelligent life forms because i know few different 4 legged ones here, but i know your talking UFOs soooo the real question is "unidentified flying objects" do you really believe with the vastness and yet still unknowns of time and space that WE are the only ones in the universe that can make something fly one way or another?
