This problem started recently. When I'm already in Windows and I want to reboot, I'll select Start>Turn off Computer> and select "Restart". As the computer is rebooting it'll get to the point where the OS should begin to load, then I'll get the message "Invalid System Disk...replace the disk, and then press any key." When I press a key it tries to access the A: drive (of course, there's no disk in the drive) and I get the message "Boot from CD: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". The only way to boot back into windows is to completely turn off the pc, then turn it back on and it will boot normally. I only get this boot-up problem when I'm already in Windows and I want to reboot. Why does the pc boot-up fine from a powered down pc, but have this problem when trying to reboot when I'm already in Windows? For some reason it wants to access the A: drive during this boot-up process. Oh, and I'm running WinXP Home edition. Thank you for your help

You broke it. And you want someone who has not seen it to fix it. :-)) Are you sure that you've put the cables in the right way round and in the right connector on the motherboard? What does the bios see by way of disks? Does it see the hard disk? Does it see the hard disk on bus 0 or bus 1? Master or slave? It really *should* be master on bus 0 to work as the boot disk for windows. If it doesn't see it and the cable is the right way round at both ends then... something's broken. If a second hard drive didn't fix it... and the wiring is correct... then it looks like a motherboard failure. Or is the cable broken? Or did you miss off something important like the power lead?

hmmmm... That is kinda odd. Would make more sense if the PC did this on your primary cold boot as well. That would suggest that the hard drive has failed (or failing) or your OS is corrupt.

Maybe check the boot sequence. You could also try and run the repair function in windows and see what comes up.

Sorry, not super helpful....

you can try to do this, when your pc is booting press the F8 key to get to the bios, it mite be a diff key on your system but it should be F8, and go into the menu that allows you to pick the option of which sequence to load of your drives, it mite be set to a: then d: then c: try to remove the a: drive from that setting and see what happens

Go to the control panel >power options and disable any advanced power options. In effect, make it "Always On" and "never" in any of the power down settings. Also uncheck the box that enables any hibernation.

Go into your BIOS and DISABLE advanced power options.

This should make it ok until you get a BIOS update for your motherboard.
