A few good politicians ruin the lot!
Robin Williams said that politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often, and for the same reason.
Power corrupts and I believe it is this reason why so many politicians are corrupt.

I think that many go into politics really believing that they can make a change and thinking that they can do something good for their country.
Then they get in and see how much bullsh**t is really involved in it and it gets disheartening. You get hardened by the cynicism by the feeling that you are unable to promote change.
This is coming from soneone who has seen some of it and knows a bit of it from the inside. There are some true believers out there, still. Bless their hearts.

I feel like there are many rotten politicians, but there are also many truthful ones. They higher a level of government a politician is, the more likely they are to be corrupt due to logrolling, but they are not all intrinsically evil.

Oh totally! I'm sure maybe 1 out of 100,000 politicians are honest, but I doubt they make it very far in their political career.

but the republican party runs on a platform of family values, and has a lot of corruption, closet gays and liar's in it, so I can see where you are coming from.
