yes because not all hamsters are solitary. The drwarf hamster variaty are not solitary. You can have up to 5 in a habitrail playground. You can get another breed of dwarf but you cant buy a teddy or syrian.

For the person who said that mammals shouldn't be caged, if hamsters aren't caged they'll escape so....and they're really small. To answer the question, I've had a hamster before, and i'd say the nicest, in my opinion, and the cutest, are teddy bear hamsters. Dwarf hamsters do tend to bite, but teddy bear hamsters are really nice, and they CAN be with another hamster, but they might fight and kill each other....which is what happened to one of my old science teacher's hamsters.

Um usually dwarfs are nice....all hamsters are cute so. A sam cage isn't that good imo try a regular cage you know with a plastic bottom with wire as the top part, make sure its small enough so they cant get out. Get carefresh bedding some tunnels to put IN the cage not around it and a small wheel.

Hamsters are solitary pets and don't usually get along with other hamsters. Sometimes littermates can be raised in the same cage, but not very often. If you handle your hamsters a lot from when they are young, they will be more gentle and won't bite. Hamsters can be lots of fun. I prefer Teddy Bear hamsters because they have a very gentle disposition, are hardier, healthier and live longer than Dwarfs. Syrian hamsters have the same good qualities. Clean the cages thoroughtly each week, change the water every day, and give them playtime outside their cages. Feed them special treats like small pieces of fresh fruit when they're outside their cages, and they will like to interact with you. Just make sure they eat all the fresh food before you put them back, otherwise they will carry this fresh food into their cages and store it where it can ferment and make them sick. Good luck with them With care and patience, they are great pets. ^-^

i i have 2 teddy bear hamsters and one is mild mannered, the long haired one, and the other is a short haired black one who is not as easy to handle. Hamsters need to live alone. they will fight or be mean. get one at petsmart, they are usually 6-8 weeks old, start it in its own cage, get an exercise ball they sell em at petsmart, use the super shavin's brand for bedding, they don't need cedar or pine, it causes respiratory problems by putting out too much oils and dust. i don't know much about dwarf hamsters except they live less long, only 1-2 years as opposed to 2-4 for regular ones. they like fresh fruit and carrot sticks-mini"s, just check out petsmart or petco and let me know how you do!

I have a syrian hamster. They'll get bigger than dwarf hamsters but if you get more than one, you'll have to seperate them in different cages. They are really cute and friendly, too. Some are more shy than others, but that all depends on which hamster you choose and how it is treated.
