An 18 yr old adult can date a 15 yr old (altho the parents of that 15 yr old aren't doing such a hot job of supervising their child). The problem arises when the 18 yr old has sex with said 15 yr old. It is called statutory rape & will earn you jail time. Is she really worth it?

It's usually a 2 yr rule and it's there for a reason there is a huge developmental and maturity difference between an 18 and a 15 yr old. This website lists all the states,it completely depends on your state. If the age of consent is 16 and there is a 2 yr law that would mean that a 17 yr old could be with a 19 yr old assuming there birthdays are less than 2 yrs apart, but the younger person still has to be a minimum of 16. Legally 2 15 yr olds who had se with eachother could be charged and convicted and have register as a sex offender. This rarely happens but these laws exist for a reason.

You would have to call your magistrate and ask!

I know in NC 15 no but once the person is 16 they can consent to sex with someone within 4 years of them. My mom hated my hubby when we first got together. I was 16 and he was 19
So she hoped to pin statutory rape on him. But I was over 16 and he was 3 1/2 years older not quite four so there was nothing that could be done.

Thankfully now she loves him to death!

Wow I looked at that site and I live in VA now and it says A person 18 and older having sex with someone age 15, 16 or 17
faces a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine. And 3 and 14 fined 100,000 and jail time

1 year age differance thats absurd Even three is absurd. a 18 year old is just as stupid as a 15 year old

And one more thing to add why is everyone flipping out over 18 and 15 its three years. My mom is dad are 57 and 62 and no one cares about that year age gap. I can see if its a 20 year old with a 15 year old but 18 and 15 is so close in maturity levels.

Sorry, but your wrong and so is about.com. They are "about" to send a lot of people to jail.
When the person hasn't reached the legal age of consent... it is a crime, just check out the sex offender registry, and that will show you about.com doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

Age of Consent applies to sex.

Technically, if you are having sex at 18 with a 15 year old, you should definately look into have your head checked. Not to mention the fact that the 15 year old needs to have someone lay the smackdown on the 18 year old.

Nonetheless, no there is no law on dating someone at that age I am pretty sure.

However, if you are having sex with this person, then you are, by law, committing rape.

i can speak about south australia....but it's different in every state/country you go too...
There is no such thing as a 3 year rule in SA.
The legal age for consent is 17 (however should a matter go to court, eg - unlawful sexual intercourse, there is a defence if the 'accused' genuinely believed the victim was 17 or above....)

There's no 3 year rule in any state I'm aware of, just the statutory rape age which does vary somewhat from state to state.

no it is not. and it is wrong. 18 in parts of the world you are an adult. 15 is a teenager.
that makes you a kiddle fiddler and you should really hang out with people your own age.
If it was 20 and 23 thats different .. you´re both mature enough to know more about life then

I never heard of such a law, but it all depends on what state you are in, because that is the law you must go by. Unless you cross state lines and then it is federal.
