I think age 12 is okay to play with dolls, especially because she has a younger sister - this is a bond and a memory for them.
I think at about age 13 she'll let her 'childhood' toys go a little at a time. If you have strong concerns, call her doctor or the office nurse and ask them.

I dont think you should discourage them from playing with dolls (except if its a boy, then you should get him into action figures or lego or toy trucks etc). These days kids grow up too fast, so it would be good for them to keep their childhood as long as possible, though not too long coz they need to start being mature and independent when they reach 13 or 14, coz u cant be a kid forever. I'm 13 and dont play with dolls, but they still attract my attention when im in the shops. i'm embarrassed of this but its the truth. i guess 13 is an age to stop playing with them, coz u start being interested in boys at that age, or even younger, but i dont think you should go out with them until you're 16. Im just saying its good that their childhood is still there coz once they get into boys it will be gone just like that....

I don't understand the rush to make kids grow up so fast! Kids (girls and boys!) should be allowed to play with what they want for as long as they want! I'm 50 and I still play with dolls! My mom tried to tell me I was too old when I was 14, so I became a collector.

i finished at 5 years previous...after my brother confirmed me a horror action picture the position a doll stabbed a knife in a adult men leg.... Oh god it freaked me out a lot that I made my grandma throw away this creepy vintage doll contained in the trash cuz i could not sleep after that day. i finished play with all kinds of dolls like Barbie and bratz yet hey I kept my mothers and fathers alot of money and were given those rings makers and each of the imaginitive toys. best area after I donated my doll to different youngsters i change into extra imaginitive. yet what sucks is that now i'm fearful of dolls nevertheless and Im 14...this is not THAT undesirable lol

I mean it is their life they can play with dolls all they want even though I stopped playing with toys when i turned like 10. But probably about 13 but it shouldn't really matter.

She will probably stop playing with dolls when she becomes very interested in boys.
However there are many women who collect dolls (usually antique or expensive dolls) & sew for them.
There are some women who make a lot of money by buying old Barbie dolls. They make them new hair & give them new faces & make them very glamorous.
I started making clothes for Barbie for my nieces & I still make, & sometimes, design, gorgeous gowns. I'll sell them someday to collectors (I hope). I am old enough to remember Eisenhower being nominated for president.

Very body is different so their is no 'one right answer'. I think you should let them play until they decide they are to old for dolls. It is about them being happy with what they are doing. They will grow out of it, but why rush them.

i think it's fine for a 12 year old to play with dolls.
i still had and played with my dolls until i was 16.
it's gives your child the feeling that they are looking after someone.
i dont see a problem with it.
:)

Silly you, 12 is still a child, and she probably still plays with her sister. Kids will stop playing with them when they feel like its too "babyish". but then i have played "barbies" with my niece to amuse her for a bit.
you should try watching them for a bit, it will probably be eye opening for you abouthow tender and loving they can be, to them these are thier "kids"......dont rush them into quitting
