Great name. more info:
JONAH
Gender: Masculine

Usage: English, Biblical

Pronounced: JO-na [key]

From the Hebrew name יוֹנָה (Yonah) meaning "dove". This was the name of a prophet swallowed by a fish, as told in the Old Testament Book of Jonah. He emerged from the fish alive three days later.

Awesome name! This will definately age well, cute on a toddler and strong for an adult.. Jonah has the same style and warmth as Noah, which has taken off in popularity. But the bonus of Jonah is that it's underused. I give 2 Thumbs Up.

It's ok, but personally, I immediately think of the story of Jonah and the whale.

Don't intend to, just that is how I associate the name.

I personally like it, but would never use it.

Be prepared for an onslaught of whale toys, whale books, whale stories, whale tales, whale jokes, etc.

I think it might be too much to grow with. Sorry.

If you are seeking a biblical name, perhaps you should choose another one that might not be as stigmatizing, such as: Aaron, Caleb, Elijah, Isaac, Isaiah, Levi, Lucas, or Zachariah.

Just some suggestions. Good Luck!

well, my name is noah, and i have always resented the fact that whenever i meet someone new and tell them my name they will always say something like "so where's your ark?" (as if i haven't heard that one before). so, what i'm trying to say is that jonah just sounds too bible-y to me. unless you want your kid to go through 'jonah and the whale' jokes throughout his entire life, i'd pick a different name (i'm assuming you're trying to choose a name for your son).
