I left my house at 5:45 pm to go to a friend's house. Of course there was a thunderstorm. I got home at 11:43 pm and noticed that the electric analog clock in the kitchen said that it was 7:05 (the analog clock stops ticking whenver there is no power being supplied to it, but starts where it left off as soon as power is restored). The digital clock in the bedroom resets to 12:00 midnight when the power goes out. That clock was flashing 3:47 am. What time did the power go out, and for how long, and when did it come back on?

Thanks for the answers. But the storm did not last that long. Why did the electricity stay off so long if the storm only lasted about 45 minutes?

Well we can figure the time it came back on by the digital clock. If the digital clock resets to midnight and when you arrive home it showed 3:47 then the power came back on @ 11:43 - 3:47 = 7:56pm. There is a difference of 4 hrs 37 mins from the stated time and the actual time on the analog clock. I'd say the power went off @ 6:26pm for 1 1/2 hrs and came back on @ 7:56 pm. Of course its late and I did most of the calculations in my head. hope this helps

Unless the Analog clock was wrong beforehand or the digital clock doesn't say 12:00 when the power come on, something is off.

By saying the digital clock reads 3:47am, you are saying the power came back on 3 hours and 47 minutes before you got home. Which would have been 7:56pm. Assuming the analog clock was correct when it stopped, that means it stopped at 4:13pm. So either you left earlier than you thought, the digital clock flashes a different time than you think, or the analog clock was wrong to start with.

The storm shut down the power but only the electric company can correct the problem and turn it back on.

cant imagine you think the storm leaving would make your power go back on.... I mean you do realize it takes workers in a truck to drive all the way over to your area to fix the problem .....which of course can take hours to fix..and thus your power came back hours later
