I come from Viking stock and curious ,if you had a chance to be Viking would you have joined to pilfer and plunder lol

I too, come from Viking stock and according to our family tree, a descendant of Leif Erikson on my grandmother's side. It was always a fantasy of mine when I was younger to be a Viking. I have always looked at them as the worlds first biker gangs, with ships instead of bikes, cruising the seas looking for adventure. Yeah, I would have joined in a heartbeat!

Funny you should ask this question while I'm currently reading "Eaters of the Dead", by Michael Crichton. Oh, the Vikings aren't the ones who're eating the dead, by the way, but reading about the Viking way of life makes for some interesting reading. I know I didn't answer the question...I just wanted to mention the good book.

I don't think we would have been given the choice. We would have been dragged to the docks and put on a ship, and away we'd have gone to pillage and plunder. (the latest research on Vikings states they weren't completely the plunders we initially thought. They were also civilized, they were interested in trading, culture, industry, building, art, and mainly settled where they landed).

Um,the Vikings were often explorers and traders and not neccessarily warriors. Not all of them stole things and plundered. You 'come from Viking stock' and yet this little tidbit of information escaped you somehow?

probably not. I am very peaceful by nature. I too am from that stocka nd I don't think I would. I am also a girl so that might make a difference in my opinion.
