I am looking into adopting a baby girl in a private adoption, she is 3 months old. It will take several months for the adoption to happen, if I get approved at all, and what I was wondering is,is it okay to change the baby's name once you adopt? I know the last name would be changed, but I would like to change the first name too.

FYI, from what I understand the baby was named by a social worker at CPS since the baby was taken almost as soon as she was born.

you will be living with your baby ( and her name ) for the rest of your lives... she will be your daughter... if you had her from when she was taken... you would have called her something different. she will not know the difference. i know a girl who has gone through literally 4 different names... being her birth name, then changed while she was little in semi-permanent and then a permament foster home until she was finally adopted, then given another name. she's now 20. she doens't mind. if your daughter finds out about her adoption make sure she knows, or at least can have a record of her origianl name for her own peace of mind. but she's your daughter. she'll react to the one who loves her and pays attention to her... calling her by her new name... she'll quite easily grasp that... good luck!

Sure it is! You can legally change the name to whatever you want to. At such a young age she will not know the difference and will get used to the new name and will identify it with the people who love her as it gets used more frequently. Go for it! Naming your baby is half the fun of having one!

My daughter call have been given very consumer-friendly the three hundred and sixty 5 days I had her i attempted to not supply my infant a consumer-friendly call, besides the shown fact that it took off that 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and have been given greater consumer-friendly ever for the reason that. If I had my daughter right this moment, i would not call her Hayley I even have not thought. It took my husband and that i 8 months to conform to a recognition. we do not basically like an identical call, or they did not circulate with the final call, or the call did not circulate with the middle call the middle call may well be Elizabeth, after my mom listed here are some names i like for a woman: Chandi, Annelise, Paxton, Paige, Victoria, Tallie, Catherine, Sarah, Avery. My husband might veto all.

It's OK to change any baby's name at any time in the USA ;)

Honestly, at 3 months that child is going to start recognizing whatever name it has as its being called it. By the time you actually adopt the child, in my opinion, it will confuse the child to start calling it by a new name. Granted, the baby will not rememer this confusion when they are older but it seems pointless to me.

there is no reason why you cant change the name of the child, if you become the legal guardian, you can legally change the name

I think that would be fine the baby wouldn't know the difference.

if she is too young to remember it, and she wasn't named by someone who loved her, I don't see that it is a bad thing. It would be too confusing to an older child, though. good luck.

I would not do it. By the time you get her she will already know her name.
