What's the scariest encounter you've ever had with a wild animal?

A bear came to my back door and scratched at the door. It did NOT run off when I yelled and pounded back on the door. When I turned on the porch light it ran. Bears were scaring children waiting for the bus each morning on our street so the neighbors applied for a hunting permit so they could kill the bears. They got 5.

I had surgery and was just getting out again although slowly. I went to the store and when I came home as I pulled into my driveway, a HUGE monitor lizard ran around in front of my car! Now, keep in mind they aren't legal to own. Someone brought it in illegally the animal control people assume and it got to big for them to keep most likely, so they turned it loose. It was half as long as my moms Honda prelude, very black with yellow and white splashed down it's back. He turned and ran back behind the car, I stepped out and here he came again. We stared at each other and I flew back into the car, backed out into the street and parked. I couldn't catch anyones attention in the house. So I ended up climbing over my fence, across the lawn, through the hedge and across the patio and into the house! I called for help and they laughed at me! I took a camera out with me so I could take a picture I knew no one was going to believe this and when I went back outside, I looked over where the lizard was as I was climbing through the hedge and he was gone! I panicked a little worrying he was in the hedge with me. I finally found him on the other side of the car. I kept an eye on him until animal control arrived. I was walking down the street and I hear this lady screammmmmmm so loud, then I see a pitbull attacking a stroller with a baby inside. The pitbull had foam and everything coming out of its mouth. Well I yelled at the dog and he took one look at me and ran as fast as he could at me. He had like a 40 yard running start at me....well for a second I was scared...then I just felt this rush inside of me and I took a couple of feet running start TOWARDS the dog and kicked him right in the throat. The dog fell down and started breathing really funny...then it stopped breathing. That happened like a week ago and I still keep thinking about it.

While working in the Bering Sea, a Salmon Shark almost bit my right hand off after it was caught and brought onboard. Since I was onboard to monitor fishing hauls and regulation observation, I was required to examine the shark ... which almost cost me my hand at the time. It was more intense than scary in my opinion though.

When I was about 10, I was riding my bike, when a large german shepherd dog ran at me from across the road, jumped up at me, and licked me. I thought I was dead meat. He was just a bit too friendly. Scared me half to death.
