I watched something on the history channel and they said that Charles Manson heard "messages" in the white album that gave him the whole Helter Skelter idea. I just think that he and those girls were just druggie pyschos but there are people out there that blame music for stuff. Didn't Ozzy and Judas Priest get sued for "messages"?

No, music doesn't kill people, people do. And yes, Ozzy was sued for "messages" in his lyrics from Suicide Solution

"Wine is fine
But whiskey's quicker
Suicide is slow with liquor
Take a bottle drain your sorrows
Then it cuts away tomorrows"

"suicide is the only way out
Don't you know what it's really about"

In 1984 a kid shot himself in the head after listening to this, and his parents sued Ozzy. If his music REALLY killed that kid, then he would have ended in jail, instead it was thrown out of court. The song is really about alcohol, and the death of Bon Scott

The Manson/Beatles theory was invented by the prosecution in the Manson case. The truth is that Manson didn't particularly even LIKE the Beatles, let alone worship them as the Prosecution claimed. If you listen to Manson's own music, it shows absolutely no inspiration from the Beatles at all. Manson and his followers have always denied hearing any messages in the Beatles music, or indeed even listening to the Beatles to any extent.

Yes, both Ozzy and Priest were sued for so-called subliminal messages leading to suicide, and both were completely vindicated by the courts.

Catcher in the Rye didn't cause the shooting of John Lennon, Jody Foster did cause the shopoting of Ronald Reagan, and the White album didn't cause the Manson family killing spree. The criminally insane and sociopaths can blame anything but the causation is their own actions.

Charles Manson would have heard messages from a cactus. The man was/is a total fruit loop.

Music only influences people to do a few things. Namely, Sex, Dance, Do Drugs, and be entertained.
If someone ever say's, "the song made me do it" they are Nucking Futs.
Oh, and a Memo to Tipper Gore, You are Nucking Futs.
Manson is responsible for the Murders of those people.

Ah, that crap again, same as how Marilyn Manson is responsible for high-school idiot killers... of course not, a homicidal piece of junk will find any excuse, music can't force a normal person to anything like that.

No, anyone who would commit such a horrendous act would not be influenced by any music. The man and his followers were, are and always will be just plain crazy. Yes the drugs could have and probably did contribute to the crime.

People kill people, not music, tv or books. How something influences someone could play a factor in decisions they make or beliefs they hold but as humans we are solely responsible for our action or inaction. People that blame society and other media are looking for mere explanations, justifications....
