Damn computer started acting weird after I messed with ram I replaced 1 256mb out of 2 with 512mb for total of 768mb worked fine I switched back to 256mb for both slots total of 512mb then It started rebooting after windows xp load screen appears with a brief appearance of a blue screen which disappears right away so I am not able to read what it says it goes back to start up with options to start windows in different modes (i.e. safe mode) It does same thing regardless in which mode it started I am able to start it in normal mode after few tries. I have tried changing memory modules and switching them around it reads them fine every time so I know it's not bad ram. Please help with this problem before l take the damn thing to a shooting range!
(Ram type: DDR PC 2700)
p.s.
It did the same thing in my friends computer after replacing single 256mb with that same single 512mb ram

Thanks

1. Try clearing the CMOS. This can be done by removing the small lithium battery inside of the computer for a minute and then putting it back in. Then install ram. If you have any custom bios settings you will need to set them up again.

2.put one stick of ram in and start up pc. Will it start with either ram module? If not possibly one stick was damaged via ESD (electrostatic discharge).

3.To get pc to stop at BSOD (blue screen of death) put in one working stick of ram and boot to windows. Go to control panel>system. On the advanced tab, under "startup and recovery" click "settings" button and on the next window uncheck the box "automatically restart". Close all windows and next time BSOD appears it will stop there. Push "control. alt, delete" to restart.

could be that the ram is not seated proper try pressing it in but not to hard take it out and reseated it again. swap the ram about too, could be that some cells are not working,as it should

windows works off memory and if it is not 100% on the first stick it will crash it out, so swap it round and make sure it is seated proper

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
