It is likely, but no one can be sure until that date. The asteroid named, 2004 MN4, nicknamed Apophis, a Near-Earth Object will make it's closest approach on April 13, 2029, at roughly 36,350 kilometers, around the same distance between the earth and the moon. Scientists are worried about this date as the close pass could knock the asteroid into a decaying orbit into earth. And could possibly hit us in 2036. It is 390 m across in diameter, and if it does hit the earth, depending where, it'd either vaporise roughly a thousand kilometres of terrain or create a 30 foot high tsunami and leave the earth blanketed in a blanket of dust.

Scientists have noted though that it is not till 2013 till they can make better observations, and a decision on what to do with Apophis.

You already have a couple of clever people give you good answers so i won't repeat what they have covered. Keep in mind that there are hundreds of thousands of near earth object (NEO) and deep space comets that are spinning thru space and cross the earth's path.

One thing certain is the earth has been hit by comets and meteors countless times in the past and will be hit again. When not if is a certainty.

Be a bit un-nerved as there maybe absolutely no warning at all. even if we had many years warning there is little we could do based on current technology to prevent an impact.

Many of these objects are noticed only after they have flown by the earth. Their orbits are also unpredictable and can be disturbed easily by other passing massive object.

There is in fact an asteroid that according to many astronomers could actually be in an orbit that intersects that of the earth. However, different astronomers have come up with different calculations as to just how close that asteroid will come to us -- some say it will most likely collide with use, others say it will miss us by a considerable distance, and still others say it could come close enough to have an effect without actually hitting us.

As for a timeline, that too depends on which group of astronomers you are talking to.

And no, none of the above has anything to do with conspiracy theory. Watch the Discovery Channel, History Channel, or NASA Channel once in a while and you may actually learn something.

if they know it for sure, they must have discovered time travel to go into the future to experience it or to read a newspaper about it after the fact.

as for me, i do not have time travel and i do not know the future. my personal answer is that i don't know that an asteroid will hit the earth in 30 years.

some people may be predicting it will happen. but it will not be true unless it happens as predicted.

Yes, any time you hear about the earth ending, you should believe it whole-heartedly.

Especialyl this one. It's true that we know about a huge asteroid hitting, but it's been kept kind of quiet on the news. It just didn't seem that important

Its bodily impossible, a minimum of in that factor! Planets are purely "drawn" in the direction of one yet another by technique of gravity - so the bigger the planet, the extra gravity it generates. which explains why the solar, it fairly is the main important mass of the image voltaic device, attracts all different planets to revolve around it. besides the undeniable fact that, to tug confusing adequate to appeal to yet another planet extremely in might require a persistent develop in gravitational pull - and thinking a) earth isn't super adequate to emit certainly one of those rigidity a strategies adequate and b) isn't becoming so subsequently isn't increasing that is pull, it can't take place. not something to be concerned approximately :-)
