When writing essays, you should always ask someone who speaks English as a first language to read it over for you. Especially if you're not capable of doing so. There are also numerous grammar and spell check programs available on-line. Another thing that you shouldn't do is shorten your words, ex: vocab, You should spell the whole word. It's fine for chatting, and such. When it comes to the important stuff like essays, you should never use slang. On your spare time read books, and even the dictionary. It'll really help you.

Sounds like you need a writing tutor... if you're in highschool ask your english teacher... if in college there should be some writing tutors available where you can probabily walk in and ask, and usually you are more likely to have taken a written english course where they usually provide you a guide-book on how to write a paper.

When writing, try not to write it as you normally would talk. Writing does require proper english (which can be hard at times)... and it always requires a lot of work.

NOt sure what else I can add...

Buy a copy of The Elements of Style by William Strunk & E.B. White. (You can find it at: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/102-2546303-1533745?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=The+Elements+of+Style&Go.x=10&Go.y=9 )
If you do a lot of text messaging in English, I would suggest you call people instead. Text messaging, with those dreadful abbreviations, form bad habits, ones that will start to appear in your essays.
You should also try and read English publications such as quality newspapers, even if it is online.
