How early can you tell if a child is going to be gay? My nephew is 6 and is quite femenine. His parents just think he is "cautious". I am wondering if this is any indication if he will grow up to be gay or is it too early to tell. I will love him no matter what his sexual preference is but his parents won't.

The only way to no for sure is when your nephew comes right out and tells you that he is gay. He should be able to determine it after his has hit puberty. That is when I realized that I was gay. It is sad that his parents will not accept it, but I am glad to know that you will. It will be comforting for him to know that he can come to you for anything. All of this aside, I wouldn't be concerned at all. It is much to earlier to determine whether he is gay. Whatever you do, don't let him go through life living a lie. Do not pressure him into revealing his feelings when he is older. Just make sure that you express to him how you feel about homosexuality, that it is completely normal, and that you accept it.

He hasn't even hit puberty yet! he's just a little boy, there's no telling what he'll choose to be. not all tom-boys grow up to be lesbians.
i don't believe anyone is born with gay tendencies or blood-type or mindset or that a boy is more likely to be gay if his mother is a green left-handed yak herder from Norway or whatever other theories there are out there, but that it's more of a social thing, hitting kids when the get into middle and high school, maybe later, when they feel like they are 'different' or 'don't fit in' or whatnot.
i also have gay friends who say they choose to be gay, gay does not choose them. i find this interesting in itself. in any respect, he's just an effeminate little boy. he'll probably grow out of it. he's at the age where he wants to try everything and he's learning a ridiculous amount about his surroundings and how social stuff works.

Well, I have a friend from high school that always wanted to play house and be the mother in kindergarten, and did so by wearing a polka dotted dress and a pink, floppy hat. Fast forward to fourth grade, he wanted life-sized Barbie for Christmas-- and got it. Skip ahead to senior year of high school and he's wearing a tiara on his birthday. He never publicly announced being gay, but everyone already just knew. So yeah, you can probably tell.

Most males and females are not sure till around 18-22 but they think they could be from adolescence. So 12-15 he may start to feel that the norm is not what he wants

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Little kids have gender-nonconforming behavior all the time; only some of 'em grow up gay. So, don't worry yet. Then again, if he does grow up queer, it's good to know he's at least got a supportive aunt (or uncle; didn't catch your gender).

That is too young to peg anyone as gay, children go through phases and by pegging someone as something you might make it so, therefore don't let anyone in your family start saying he is feminine to the child's face. It is the same when parents name one as bad and the other as good, you are reinforcing that behavior by talking about it.

i think it's too early to tell. just wait for his pre-teen. you do know that there's this new type of men now, the metrosexual. so he may just be effeminite.
