Through the night book drop slot. Check with your local library where they are located. Every library I've been to has one, some even have drive-though book drops.

You will still get fined. If its due back that day and you dont get it back until after the library has closed, then they dont see it as returned until the next day so its one day late.

They have no proof that you dropped it through the slot on the same day it was due back, or the early hours of the morning, or 5 minutes before the library opened the next day.
So yes you can still be fined.

I've never seen a library without a book drop or slot for night/holiday returns.

Most libraries have at least a three-day grace period before they fine you.

i work at a library and you probably mean that you had to return it on saturday for example when its closed. it depends from the library, most likely they will be expecting the book on monday or friday before the saturday you were suppose to return the book. my guess is that there wont be a fine but its better to return it before the date expires, in this case, if its saturday or sunday, return it the friday before.

Most libraries have a 24 hour drop-box, where books can be returned anytime.
