Some moves through it a little bounces off. The curtain will absorb most of what you can hear. But it will continue to go into what ever is behind it..or bounce back and go through the curtain again damping the amplitude even more. This way you don't hear echos.

All energy must go somewhere..the lost energy is mostly turned into vibration on the curtains.

The same way the sound was made the sound is taken away...speakers vibrate to make sounds.

Into the ceiling and curtains of course. A sound wave is a mechanical wave. When the wave reaches an object, it applies a force to it and causes it to vibrate. Think of wind blowing on the curtains, its the same principle.

At the end ( after some reflections, echoes) all the sound will be absorbed and be heat of the surrounding.

It only slows it down so as not to echo so much .The sound waves still bounce around the room and yes they carry energy.
