what would be an ideal gift for under $30 for my friends baby's 1st birthday?

I really think I should get him books because I think that it is extremely important that children be read to and I found a BEAUTIFUL book at Wal-Mart for like $15 and it had like 8 different stories in it like The 3 little bears and what not. My boyfriend says I should go buy it for myself for our future children.

The absolute BEST GIFT my daughter got for her 1st birthday was the LuLu The Letter Spinning Spider made by Leap Frog!!! This is a toy that can be clipped to the crib, carseat, WHATVER!! It plays games and sings songs that are all about the alphabet. My daughter is 2 now and knows all her letters of the alphabet by sight....and I KNOW it is because of that toy. She loved it!!! I gifted one to my husband's nephew a few months ago for HIS first birthday.....and his parents say that he is ALWAYS playing with it!!!

It only costs about $20.00, I think. Get the batteries, too....nothing worse than a gift with no batteries!! The batteries last a really long time, too. My daughter played with it ALL THE TIME and it took a long time for them to wear down!

Seriously....a great gift. You should get it. The parents will love it and the child will love it and play with it for months and months (my two year old still plays with it....it's clipped to her toddler bed as I write this....)

Normally, I would suggest a walmart gift card so that the parents can get the child something they approve of (and of course you would explain to them as to that is the reason you got them that instead of an actual toy)

or you can check out the walmart website for toy suggestions, because they have a "by age" list of the best toys to get.

I think the LeapFrog Little Leaps System is the BEST!! its not only something that will keep the child busy but something that the parents can do to interact with them.

The thing my daughter liked the best at that age was this thing that plays music and has these balls that go through a tube and pop up in the air. I can't think what it was called but they sell them at walmart and target. Also the book idea is good. The sooner they are read to and the more they are the smarter they'll be later.

Dr. Suess books - hard smaller board books of Go Dog Go and Mr. Brown Can Moo and Hop on Pop and Green Eggs and Ham are all delicious.

Books by Jan Brett have wonderful illustrations.

Your friend's baby doesn't care or understand, obviously, so this is all about you and your friend, and your desire to give the baby something nice.

A Bible Story Book to be read to him at bedtime.
How about a gift certificate or a Savings Bond or 30 gold dollars.

I don't know if the baby is walking already but I would suggest something to keep him entertained and moving. A soft ball to learn how to toss and coordinate. Books are definitely a good idea as long as someone reads to him. I would also consider a push along toy to motivate walking.

a time capsule is a fantastic present and has alot of sentimental value.
if the little one is a girl and has her ears pieced earrings are a great pressy .
if you want to go toys you can get some fantastic duplo in target , k.mart or big w for under $30.00
or if you have or can get your hands on a nice photo of the little one, get it blown up and buy a nice frame for it you can sometimes get frames where you can have engraving done
anyway hope that gives you a few ideas good luck

No, i do no longer think of it is important which you attend. i'm shocked that your pal is making the variety of extensive deal of the undertaking. analyzing and preparing for finals is of much better import than gazing a human who would not even understand it is her birthday destroy her little hands around in a cake. maybe there is extra to this occasion? maybe your pal is soliciting for ethical help for this function, or feels that your presence could in a roundabout way make the form extra useful? Ask her what her motivations are and talk brazenly and easily together with her. If she is your pal she would be in a position to take heed to.

My step mom made both her grandkids special cakes they could eat for their birthday. She got a pan shaped like a bear (off eBay or something), made a cake, decorated it like a bear, and let the kids just tear it apart and eat it. I think something like that is pretty original and the parents can take pics to remember it and it would be fairly inexpensive. Just ask your friend if she approves and the kid will probably love it (I know her grandkids did)!!

If he's like a lot of babies out there, he probably doesn't need anything. He's too young to really understand presents, so I would go crazy. How about something practical, like diapers (they like the wrapping paper better anyway), or gift certificate for swimming lessons?
