i got mine at petsmart cost from 8-20 dollars, depending on what breed you want, they have panda bear , teddy bear{ihave these} calico, honeybears, are sweet, long haired and short haired, dwarfs, chinese and russian, blackbear hamsters. Try to get one less than 2 months old and get a nice crittertrail cage they sell at both petstores. and an exercise ball, and an igloo. they like fresh fruit and yogurt drops, they have an excellent hamster section at petsmart. good luck to you, remember they only live 2-4 years so you kinow ahead of time, also don't let them fall, they have terrible depth perception and can't tell how far things are.

very inexpensive pets and very adorable! i'm pretty sure mine was less than $20
just keep in mind that u need to buy a cage, water bottle, food, food bowl, maybe a plastic ball for excersize, a wheel for inside the cage and some cages come w/ wheels attached, some sawdust, and maybe a little toy that they can play with like something w/ little holes for them to poke out of and stuff
i LOVE hamsters! they are adorable and fun to watch. yes i agree that males are more mild than the females
i love my male golden hamster...he is very nice and i've had him for a few months now :0)

mine cost i think 15 on sale. I got a black bear hamster, and he's so sweet. The dwarf hamsters are mean though. And i find males generally nicer than females. Just thought i'd share, i know you didn't ask.

Way too much money and they are often not the healthiest or youngest. Find a breeder and get a baby from a breeder. If you can't find a breeder, find a feed store (they even have feed stores in cities) and ask them for a breeders number.

Remember they need a good cage and healthy food so if you are really broke or a kid hehehehe make sure you can afford to care for them properly. I personally prefer gerbils because they are sweeter and rarely bite. Hamsters often bite, especially if you get them when they are older. Play with any small pet you get before you pay for it to make sure it likes people.

ok so read up on proper care and housing instead of asking a question you can call and ask tomorrow at petco.

re-think your rodent choice. buy a rat. DONT BUY from petco. buy from a breeder. hamsters dont have personalities. rats do. seriously. buy a rat from a breeder. it'll be well worth it.
ACTUALLY dont buy A rat, buy at least 2. they're social creatures, and need beings from their own species to truely be happy.

I would not buy my hamster from there! The employees do not even know how to tell you how to care for them!
