This is an egocentric society, where we must interpret and perceive everything in our lives from only our own perspectives.
AKA, because we (almost) all speak in the first person, whereas if I spoke in the third person and said "Neil's over there" and pointed at my feet all the time, people probably would get annoyed with me.
