Surf Morocco - Quick Facts
Location: North Africa
Population: 32730000
Nationality: Moroccan
Language: Arabic, (Berber dialects)
Currency: Moroccan Dirham (9 per $US)
Morocco is the first place you hit heading south from Europe, seperated from Europe by the Straights of Gibraltar. Morocco is the land of the pointbreak, and the coastline around the Agadir area is riddled with spots. This ensures surfing uncrowded waves. If you are struggling to get waves in a crowded lineup in Morocco you are a fool, and a lazy one at that. There are empty waves around every corner and during the winter months they are all firing.
Morocco is best surfed in late autum through until march, the rest of the year can be pretty uneventful. When the big swells run down the coast the pointbreaks come alive and our advice is to head to Agadir. Althought there is not any surf in Agadir it is an easy place to get to and has world class waves a short drive north. Anchor Point as a must if you are going to surf Morocco, when it is on it can break up to a kilometre - talk about jelly legs! If you are adventerous (and very well prepared and organised) then head south from Agadir in a 4WD and discover some classic waves and maybe become the only person ever to have surfed there - that is something to fire the imagination.

Getting there:
You can reach Morocco by air, there are cheap fares for Tangier, Casablanca or Agadir, hiring a car on the place. We flew into Agadir, which was about 3,5 hours from Amsterdam
Customs:
The real pain in the *** is the customs, which will take you some time remember your surfboards will be recorded and declared on your passport. This means you must leave with them, even if they're broken: if they're stolen, you'll need a letter from the police (good luck!).
Travel:
Roads are quite good, and mechanics are cheap and fast in case of breakdown. There should be also good rentals and you can find cheap hotels, especially near the medina's of the towns.
Language:
Pretty much everyone understand and speak French, which is the official language along with Arab, but in the south also Spanish is common.
Season:
Winter is the most popular season with consistent swell, clean surf and warm air and water. Spring and autumn have similar conditions with hotter air and less crowd. Summer can have flat spells.
Cost of living:
Morocco is pretty cheap. we payed 12 Euro's each for the accommodation and another 10 Euro's for good food. Alcohol is hard to come by in Taghzaoute, so that will save you some €$€$€$€$
Attention:
Always be careful, theft is common like in every other third world country, and if you wanna smoke hash be even more careful: moroccan prisons aren't that good and they're full of western people who came in order to smoke and have some transcendental experience .

Been there twice--traveling alone as a woman, and it was wonderful. It's generally safe (watch out near ports, esp. Tangiers), beautiful, and the food and people are terrific.
If you're not up for car rental, take the train, which I've done. It's clean and cheap, and travels through the major cities.
There is a lot of poverty--so, you'll find the usual beggars and hustlers. Use your head, but be kind. Learn a few polite words in Arabic and keep walking. ("No, thank you" is useful--something like: "Na'am, shakran")
For surfing, I'm less informed, but there are touristy areas on the coast as you near the Sahara--Taghazoute, for example, and maybe Agadir (not sure about this one). Towards Tangiers, it's more a rocky coastline, a bit sheltered, since it's close to Spain and more bay-like at the straits.
Enjoy!

Don't listen to people say it's the worst place to go, they must not know anything. I have been and it was alot of fun, you should go to the night market in marrakech and take a drive through the atlas mountains and into the sahara. I didn't stay that long because I was coming from spain and protugal but if you can you have to stay in the La Momounia Hotel, it's on the top 5 star hotels of the world list.

Morocco is an amazing place, you will have a great time!
I personally love Marrakech but there are so many towns/cities and each one is so different.
Agadir and Essaouira are supposed to be great for surfing.
I've added a link for you to look at.
Hope this helps.
EDIT, just to say I agree with what Emmesokol said but no thank you is "La, shukran". na'am is yes.
Also a good one to know is asif (to men), asifa (to women) which means sorry.
It's good to see so many positive comments about Morocco!
