I have taken the emergency contraceptive twice. Both times they have worked for me. I read that it has an 85% effectiveness. It works like a strong birth control pill. It helps to prevent ovulation, prevent sperm from fertilizing and prevent implantation. Yes you can get it without a prescription, effective Aug 2006. You can contact your local pharmacy and ask them if they carry Plan B. In Texas, you have to be 18 yrs or older to purchase over the counter without a prescription. I don't know rules for other states (they might be the same). It cost me about $45, and they suggested I take a pill for motion sickness 30 minutes prior to prevent nausea. Hope this helps. Also it works best the sooner you take it. I have always been told that you have a 72 hr (3day) window, because sperm can live up to 72hrs and it can take an egg 3-5days to implant in the uterus.

It works I haven't taken it but I have a best friend that takes it like it is birth control (and it should not be taken this way), it has worked for her every time. Also I believe you have to have a prescription for some or go to planed parenthood in your area and I think they might dispense it at there sight. Also if you keep track of your period then know that you are only fertile approximately 14 days after your period, so that if you are not around that window period, you should be OK.

you can get the morning after pill without a prescription if you're over 18 at your local pharmacy...you have to ask for the drug because it is behind the counter..
